Circuit 03 (Pet Sounds) 

Circuit 03 (Pet Sounds) is open! And this time YOU can flux with us. 

Audio Flux is a new home for independent audio, new voices, and big ideas in podcasting. We invite people far and wide to create short audio works in response to a set of prompts. For each “Circuit” we work with a creative partner who inspires these prompts. You can learn more about and listen to our first two Circuits here.

Our creative partner for Circuit 03 (Pet Sounds) is NYC-based pet portrait artist, Ben Lenovitz. Our Circuit Supporter is the Independent Media Initiative (IMI.)

In addition to commissioning four original fluxworks for Circuit 03, we're going public! Anyone/everyone is encouraged to submit a short audio work, by May 15, 2024, in response to the prompts below, which are directly inspired by Ben’s artwork.

Submission Guidelines

DEADLINE: May 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time

Creative Prompts

All formats and genres are welcome, as long as your submission:

  • Runs three minutes long

  • Features a pet protagonist or antagonist

  • Exhibits a moment of audible ALL CAPS
    (a moment of emphasis that stands out from the rest of the story)

  • References the color blue

Technical Requirements

Your fluxwork, which can be submitted here, should include: 

  • Legal name and email address

  • Mp3 audio file (if we select your submission, we’ll request a higher resolution audio format)

  • Title for your fluxwork

  • One sentence description

  • Bio (200 words max)

  • If your submission is chosen as a Circuit Select or Honorable Listen, we’ll request an accompanying image.

Additional Details

  • We recommend listening to fluxworks from Circuit 01 or 02 to get a sense for how wildly different they are, one to the next.

  • All submissions will receive light feedback (if requested) from the Audio Flux team by the end of August.

  • All entrants must read (and confirm having read) a detailed document featuring our rules, terms and conditions regarding permissions, IP, and crediting.

Selection Information

Four submissions will be chosen as Circuit Selects. These fluxworks will receive $750 and debut at an upcoming live event in NYC in June 2024, alongside the four commissioned Circuit 03 fluxworks. They will also be featured on audioflux.org, and the Audio Flux podcast (Fall 2024.)

Up to four additional submissions will be selected as Honorable Listens. These fluxworks will receive $300 and will be featured on audioflux.org and the Audio Flux podcast (Fall 2024.) 

But wait, there’s more! Our creative partner Ben Lenovitz will paint an original portrait in response to each Circuit Select and commissioned fluxwork. Cool, right?
